Final Portfolio
In my Asian American Studies class this semester, we talked extensively on how food evokes memory. I wholeheartedly agree with this, which is why I am also a food columnist for TSL. I write about food and the stories that accompany them, and now, through this final project, I make art about food, too. I created one self portrait as well as three portraits of my friends, each inspired by a nostalgic childhood food. In each work, I tried to capture the essence of the person, using the color palette, patterns, and shapes of the food item to my advantage. Throughout all the works I also experimented with organic lines. I hope that this project inspires you to consider the nostalgic flavors of your childhood... and eat something good!

My favorite childhood snack was Circus Animal Cookies. I created this portrait using various elements (colors and patterns) of the actual packaging design.

My friend Kara's favorite childhood treat was Krispy Kreme donuts. I created a halo out of the donut and played around with compositing techniques and a more muted color palette.

To this day, gummy bears are my friend Erin's favorite candy. She is passionate about fashion and makeup art as well, so I played with the gummy bear textures to create "makeup" on her face. I used bright colors and organic shapes to create a fun portrait.
